One of the perks of being a registered nurse is I get to wear possibly the world’s most comfortable work uniform. As anyone who wears scrubs can attest, however, not all scrubs are created equally. I’m very picky about my scrubs and want them to be stylish, comfortable, and practical at a decent price. When Dansko approached me about reviewing their new line of medical scrubs, I was intrigued if they could meet my strict criteria.
Dansko has long been famous in the medical world for their comfortable clogs, so I was curious to see if their healthcare apparel would live up to the same high standards. I selected the Gwen Aqua Woven Stretch top and the Gina pants. With the mock wrap top and vibrant aqua color (I’d call it more of a turquoise), these scrubs have a sleek design and were very figure-flattering.
The material is a polyester/rayon/spandex blend and has just the right amount of stretch – I hate baggy scrubs, but I need to be comfortable and able to move around too, and these were perfect. The fabric was also soft and comfortable, but not too thin or sheer. If I’m wearing an outfit for 12+ hours, comfort and fit is very important!
The scrubs have a number of little details that I also appreciate. Instead of ties, the top has adjustable back tabs with a button closure. There are two settings to adjust how tight you’d like the waist. It also has 2 front pockets (a MUST for functionality in my opinion!) including an inner pocket for your cell phone. The cell phone pocket is a little small for most smart phones, but I use it to hold my pens.
The Gina scrub pants are a mid-rise style with an elastic backed waist and drawstring front. They also feature 2 front pockets and 2 cargo side pockets. Okay, I never really use my scrub pants pockets for anything but they are there if I need them! Sometimes I have a hard time finding scrub pants that are the right length. You don’t want to be rocking the high waters, but you don’t want the unprofessional look of pants dragging on the floor. I ordered the regular and they were just right, and they also come in petite and tall sizes.
I also appreciated these technical features:
Temp Lock: Perspiration is wicked away. You stay cool under pressure but warm under the AC vent.
Care Lock: Colors hold fast. Stains are released.
Size Lock: The size you buy is the size you wear, wash after wash.
I washed the scrubs to check for color-fastness and shrinkage. They came out looking just as vibrant and still had the same great fit. One of my coworkers even commented on what a pretty color my Dansko scrubs were. It looks like for now they only carry solid colors.
Dansko scrubs met all of my picky requirements and really impressed me. I would buy another pair in a heartbeat, and will definitely check them out next time I am shopping for new scrubs.
Update 6/25/13: I am still wearing and loving these scrubs over a year later. They’re one of my most flattering pairs and the material and color has held up great despite frequent washing. I wish these were a little more affordable, I would definitely buy more!
