Diva Cup Review and Giveaway

Aunt Flo. Monthly visitor. That time of the month. Whatever cutesy name you give it, getting your period is just something that most women have to endure. You probably don’t give much thought to the products you use to get you through it, but today I’m introducing a relatively new feminine hygiene product, the Diva Cup, and I really hope you at least consider it.

The Diva Cup is a reusable menstrual cup, an eco-friendly alternative to disposable tampons and pads. Made from soft health-grade silicone, the Diva Cup is a small bell-shaped cup that you insert and wear to collect menstrual flow. Simply remove, empty the cup, wash with soap and water, and reuse. I first heard about this when I was a teenager and just couldn’t wrap my head around physically having to deal with the blood. I also wasn’t sure how I’d feel about walking around with the cup inside me (even though wearing a tampon is exactly the same concept), and I had visions of the cup coming out of place in a very public moment and becoming soaked with blood.

Diva Cup Review Menstrual Cup

After actually trying the Diva Cup myself during normal activities, I can tell you that all my fears were unnecessary and I’m glad I dispelled those myths. I should have read the Diva Cup reviews sooner, as there are so many positive testimonials from other women in case you are still unsure. I had to read the instructions thoroughly a couple of times to learn how to insert and remove it correctly, and it is a little more complicated than a tampon, but it’s easy enough once you figure it out. Once in place, I didn’t even feel or notice it even when running. I also realized that you really have to work at it a bit to remove it, so it’s very unlikely that it will just ‘slip out’ if it’s in place correctly.

Another concern I had prior to using it was how would I remove it in a public restroom (such as when at school or work) and empty it out, especially since I work 12 hour shifts. I should have done my research because most women can easily wear it for 12 hours and not even have it be half-full. I was very surprised by how little blood there was at the end of the day; it always seems like so much more when it’s saturating a thin tampon. I didn’t experience any leakage when I used the Diva Cup either.

Will I use the Diva Cup again? Absolutely yes. Just think of all the money you spend on disposable tampons and pads, and how that contributes to waste in our landfills. It saves you money and helps the environment. With an average retail price of $32, imagine making that one-time investment and then never having to buy tampons or pads again. Like me, you will probably have to go outside your comfort zone a little bit, but now I wonder what took me so long to just try it.

The Diva Cup FAQ section does a great job of thoroughly explaining lots of questions and concerns if you would like to learn more.

There is no evidence that menstrual cups increase the risk of yeast or bacterial infections, but we do suggest using The DivaWash (or a pH balanced soap), because it does not leave a residue. Soap residue can cause irritations. As for all gynecological concerns, we suggest you consult your physician.

I have actually been looking at the Diva cup for six months now contemplating (I use instead right now) so this is a giveaway I am jumping for joy to see! My favorite thing about the Diva cup is that it is so green and doesn’t add to our landfills. It saves close to 10,000 pads and tampons in one woman’s life span. That is a huge difference to our world!
