#Blogging Tip: Verify Twitter Followers with DoesFollow

If you’re a giveaway blogger, chances are that you verify your winner’s entries.  In order to keep things fair for everyone, I think it’s important to make sure winners complied with the rules and did what they said they did to gain entries.  Here’s a very quick and easy tool to verify if someone does indeed follow you or a sponsor on twitter.

Go to DoesFollow.com

You’ll see a screen like this:

Verify Twitter followers with DoesFollow

You can see that I filled in the example with a winner’s Twitter username in the first field and my twitter name in the second field. I want to see if @kopperkirlz follows @RachelsReviews. Click the Check button on the right.

Verify twitter followers

That’s it! It’s free and you don’t have to create an account or anything – just plug in your twitter names and hit Check. It’s a two second process and worth it to ensure that your winners are playing by the rules.

Fellow giveaway bloggers, do you take the time to verify entries on your giveaways? Why/why not?

On a related note, be sure to check out my article on why you should manually moderate Rafflecopter entries. You may be surprised what I found when I started looking through my Rafflecopter entries.

I always check the winner’s entry even though I’ve never had a problem in the past. Well today when I went to draw a $50 Visa gift card winner, I verified the entry and the person didn’t follow me on Twitter. It’s unfortunate they lied and not all bloggers check entries because it makes people think they can get away with this.

Luckily I haven’t had this come up yet – all of my winner entries have always checked out. I know that sometimes people may think they clicked it and it didn’t take. I have entered at giveaways where I could have sworn I already followed them on twitter or GFC and clicked the link just in case, and sure enough I wasn’t.

You’re welcome. It’s so much faster than manually checking through lists of thousands of followers!

Thanks for the site! It will come in very handy.
Do you have any tips/tools for verifying Facebook followers & RSS subscribers?
I find those the hardest. I haven’t found anything to verify RSS yet. And for Facebook it takes forever to browse through 1400 people to find a name!
I do take verifying very seriously. I check IP, e-mail, ask the sponsor if they actually subscribed to their newsletter, etc.

No, that would be great though! It’s such a pain trying to verify FB followers.
